SD-WAN Tuesday Call(2-9)
The February 9th Telarus Tuesday call welcomed back Telarus co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Patrick Oborn with the fifth of six product and supplier inside calls. The special guest for this call was Telarus VP of Engineering, Josh Lupresto, to discuss the 2020 review, enterprise network, five key drivers of SD-WAN, key ingredients of SD-WAN, and upcoming educational opportunities. SD-WAN 2020 Year in Review:
At Telarus, our partner participation increased 47%, the total number of orders went up 120%, and our MRC increased 94%. It is important to note that these percentages all took place during a pandemic. During this time, Telarus also added new WAN suppliers for 2020, including Equinix, Megaport, Zenlayer, NetFoundry, Palo Alto, Telus, Ziply Fiber, and others.
Enterprise Network:
The process listed above is there to help you every step of the way. If you follow this process, you flush out the requirements early on, and Telarus addresses all the stakeholders’ needs and helps them build out and add documentation into their RFP. Then Telarus helps hand-deliver that RFP or formal quote out to the suppliers and helps them make their selection and decision criteria when they have all the information given to them. From there, the suppliers can present it. Telarus is there to help every step of the way to deploy it. This results in a massive, closed opportunity and a fantastic experience.
Five Key Drivers of SD-WAN:
- Cost: How does the customer get the speed and reliability without overpaying?
- Management Complexity: Customer’s ability to self-manage a network.
- Functionality: What abilities does the overlay or aggregate network need to have?
- Quality: Are there applications that are sensitive to delay, packet loss, and jitter?
- Security: If the customer is securing the WAN at the edge, do they want to do it with a standard edge firewall appliance, or do they want to simplify it down into one SD-WAN box?
Key Ingredients of SD-WAN:
The first is to select the WAN ingredients that you want. The second is to figure out what your customer’s management capability is. Do they want a plug-and-play, basic web-based WAN control interface, or do they want a sophisticated web and command-line interface? Third, is what do you need it to do? It can be everything from simple fail-over, bonding, traffic shaping, dynamic WAN routing, and VPN. Lastly, there is firewall functionality. The main goal is to figure out what the customers need.
